For someone who already has a working Watch 5, this is an optional upgrade. Both watches have a 2.07-inch AMOLED display, built-in satellite positioning and Bluetooth calling.

Specifications refer to the standard models, not the Active, Lite or NFC editions. Dimensions exclude the strap and protrusions. Battery figures come from different manufacturer test scenarios, so matching “24 days” on the boxes does not prove equal endurance.
What you're paying extra for
The Watch 6 is about 1.4mm thinner and 2.5g lighter without its strap. If you dislike a bulky watch under a shirt cuff, that is a sensible reason to consider it. Comfort still depends on your wrist and strap fit; a smaller number on a spec sheet can't settle that for everyone.
It also adds a second physical button beside the crown. If you prefer physical shortcuts to tapping through menus, this is a more practical upgrade than buying solely for a newer model name.
The screen size hasn't changed
Both screens have the same diagonal size, resolution and refresh rate. The Watch 6 has a higher advertised peak brightness, but peak brightness and high-brightness mode are different measurements. Both list 1,500 nits HBM, so we wouldn't describe the new screen as uniformly brighter in every situation.
For walking, workouts and everyday calls
You don't have to buy the Watch 6 just to get built-in GPS: the Watch 5 already has it. Both can record supported outdoor workouts using their own satellite positioning. Bluetooth calling is also available on both, with your phone connected nearby.
Neither of those shared features is a strong reason to replace a Watch 5 that you already like. The newer watch may suit you better, but this guide does not claim tested improvements in route accuracy or call clarity.
Read the battery claim carefully
Xiaomi gives the Watch 6 separate light, normal and heavy-use ratings. The 24-day headline belongs to the light-use scenario. Always-on display, frequent monitoring and GPS workouts change the calculation. Buy for the features you intend to leave switched on, rather than assuming you'll see the longest advertised runtime.
Which one would we choose?
With a budget around Rs. 25,000, the Watch 5 is the straightforward choice. It keeps the large AMOLED screen, GNSS and calling while saving Rs. 3,509. If you're buying your first watch and prefer a thinner body and the Watch 6's controls, the extra spend has a clear purpose.

Can either watch make calls without my phone?
The standard Bluetooth models need the paired phone connected for Bluetooth calls. Built-in GPS does not mean built-in cellular service.
Are Watch 5 and Watch 6 the same as the Lite or Active models?
No. Those names identify separate products. Match the full name when comparing prices and specifications.
Does 5ATM mean I can use it for diving?
No. Follow Xiaomi's permitted-use guidance; a laboratory water-resistance rating is not a diving-depth recommendation.
